In 2014/15 we have already committed ourselves to funding a visit by a World War 1 historian who spoke to all children in the school, transport to Humphrey Head for Y5/Y6, the Christmas Panto and money towards swimming lessons for all. We anticipate that over the next 12 months we will spend approximately £5000 providing educational support and fun activities for all our children.
During the Autumn term we have raised £175 with our annual jumble sale. Thank you to the FOSS members who were able to help set up and attend to the various stalls and to members of the local community that came along to pick up some bargains. A big thank you also goes to Slingsby Methodist Chapel for allowing us to use their school room for the event.
In the week following the jumble sale we had our biannual Bags2School collection. Although we do not know how much was raised as yet, it was great to see so many bags outside the Reading Rooms. The next collection will be in May 2015 so don’t throw anything away.
Our A.G.M was held on November 27th. Thank you to all that attended and to The Grapes Inn for allowing us space to hold our meeting. The new committee will be confirmed in the minutes to follow.
The Friends of Slingsby School have now arranged a full calendar of events for the academic year ahead and we hope that all parents in the school show us their support in attending those events. With treasure hunts, parties, quizzes, ducks and scarecrows, there really is something for everyone.
As the term comes to an end, I would like to wish all our parents, children and teachers a very Merry Christmas. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year with bags of enthusiasm as we head towards our £5000 target.
