Olympic Athlete Chris Cook Visits Slingsby

Commonwealth Gold Medalist, Chris Cook, Shares the Secrets of his Success!

On Wednesday 14th September, the children of Slingsby School were lucky enough to welcome visiting speaker Chris Cook.

Chris won 3 medals (2 gold and 1 silver) at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne 2016 (100m and 50m breaststroke, and 4 x 100m medley).  He has also represented team GB in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

He explained to us that it takes commitment and determination to reach our goals, and all the children were very inspired by his success through hard work and self-belief.

It was really interesting to find out that Chris missed out on qualifying for an Olympic Games by one thousandth of a second – the blink of an eye.  However, his never-say-die attitude eventually paid off.
